Webmail

AShopMail is a webmail program, which runs on a server. The webmail program is written in PHP4 and uses a mySQL database. It will run on most Linux, Windows, Unix, FreeBSD, and NetBSD operating systems, which support PHP4 and mySQL.

Webmail applications get mail from a POP3 mailbox. Most webmail applications, such as Horde webmail, allow you to view the contents of the POP3 mailbox directly in the inbox. Then, the messages are manually deleted or moved from the POP3 box to webmail folders.

AShopMail gets messages from a POP3 mailbox, but instead of viewing new messages directly, AShopMail gets the messages from the POP3 mailbox and sorts them into either the inbox or the spam bin. Messages from known contacts, permitted domains and messages that are sent through the secure web site contact form go directly to the inbox. All other messages go to the spam bin, where they are easily identified. Messages from new contacts can be saved from the spam bin so that they will be known in the future. The remaining spam messages are easily deleted with one click.

AShopMail integrates with most POP3 mailboxes. POP3 has been a standard and acceptable method for many years. Most providers of DSL, cable, and satellite Internet service provide at least one POP3 mailbox with each account. For instance; you@sbcglobal.net. AShopMail also works with your email address that has a POP3 mailbox from your domain, for instance; you@yourdomain.com. But, you don't need to already have an email address to begin using AShopMail. A free POP3 email box is included with AShopMail hosted service, for instance; yourname@ashopmail.com.

Most webmail programs require manual organization. Traditionally designed webmail programs such as Horde show the contents of the POP3 mailbox in the inbox. With traditional email client programs you have to create folders and move messages from one place to another in order to organize and save messages.

NO MORE OF THIS!!!

  • Download messages and/or view the messages in the Inbox.
  • Select each message to be deleted
  • Delete Bulk eMail and Spam.
  • Reply to messages in inbox.
  • Save each remaining message from inbox to a related folder (or delete).
  • Purge deleted messages.

To further complicate things, in the old email client folder structure the sent messages are automatically saved to the sent folder. If you want the sent messages to be in each related contact's folder, the messages must each be manually moved. AShopMail eliminates the need to manually move sent messages. When you reply or send messages each incoming and outgoing message is automatically saved to the related contact's history and in chronological order through the inbox message history.

The old methods are outdated, tedious and inefficient. Messages from unidentified sources should not be allowed in the inbox. Obvious spam and bulk e-mail should not be in the inbox. When messages are replied to, most likely both the incoming and outgoing message should be saved in relation to the contact. We intuitively know this, yet many people continue to repeat the same redundant key strokes and clicks day after day because that is what they are used to doing. The old methods perpetuate familiar processes, but they do NOT address the primary needs of most users in the most efficient way possible.

AShopMail eliminates redundant manual processes. Instead of dumping everything into the inbox and requiring the user to create and maintain folders manually, AShopMail immediately puts messages into priority. Messages from known contacts and legitimate guests are automatically moved into the inbox. Contacts are automatically saved when messages are replied to and/or saved. Messages are automatically related to contacts by their email addresses and can be looked up by searching each contact's history. AShopMail is natural and intuitive. It works in the way that most people use their email.

AShopMail organizes messages automatically and puts them into one of three places; inbox, spam bin, or a contact's history. The most common basic needs are addressed first and foremost.

  • View current valid incoming messages from known contacts.
  • Reply to messages (and automatically save in relation to contacts).
  • Browse spam bin for possible missed messages and then delete spam.

AShopMail simplifies the most common tasks. Traditional email programs require users to perform redundant manual processes. Each time a message is processed there is a sequence of steps that must be followed. AShopMail addresses the primary needs of most users and automates the redundant tasks. Instead of requiring users to learn a set of rules, setup structure, and then manage the content; AShopMail assumes that the majority of email users have similar priorities. AShopMail addresses the highest priorities in a simple and efficient way that saves time and is naturally organized.

Each message in the inbox has a set of icon/links directly to the right. Messages from new contacts have a Reply, Save, and Delete icon. When a message from a new contact is replied to or saved , the new contact is automatically added to your contact list. Messages from existing contacts have two additional icon/links; one to view the contact's profile and one to view messages and notes relating to that contact. All messages received, replies, and new messages to each contact are saved in that contact's history. There is no need to drag and drop or to manually save messages to a specific folder. The messages are automatically saved in the history for the contact who it was received from or sent to. Messages may also be viewed for all contacts in the order that they were saved.
